Swamp Milkweed and the Tapinoma Ants No. 2 - 36" x 60"

$3,250.00

We’re in the process of removing our lawn and replacing it all with native Illinois plants, including this fantastic swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata). Milkweed is popularly known as a host plant for the endangered monarch butterfly - but the flowers and leaves provide nutrients for lots of other insects, like these common Tapinoma ants. I recorded them engorging themselves on the flower’s nectar one morning. There was so much sugar water in their abdomens you could see right through them. ❤️

Prints of this painting are also available.
