Green Bottle Fly (Lucilia sericata)

from $18.00

After bees, flies are the second-most effective and important pollinators, responsible for pollinating up to 70% of crop plants according to a recent study published in the Annual Review of Entomology. This Green Bottle Fly stopped in my yard and I was surprised to see it drinking nectar because I assumed flies only liked to live on šŸ’© and rotting materials. But in this new context - resting on a flower - I could see another side of its beauty. Also, I’m a sucker for an underdog.

The original painting is also for sale.
